Rachel McAdam's Hair

Having short hair is great! It takes no effort to dry. It is reasonable tidy most days. If your cut is interesting enough, there's instant style without really trying. But short hair...can get boring and I don't have any idea how to style it.

Thankfully there are people out there who's job it is to style hair of all sorts and Rachel McAdams rocked her short hair by using two Dove Advanced Hair Series hair products during TIFF. She was going for an "edgy but polished" look, something I am on board with. Her stylist, Mark Townsend, followed these steps:

Step 1
Start by applying a few pumps of the Dove Oxygen Moisture Leave-In Foam throughout the hair. This volumizer gives the hair great volume while adding much needed moisture.

Step 2
Blow dry hair using only fingers and twisting and scrunching large sections of hair until it's dry.

Step 3
To add shine and the perfect amount of piecey-ness while keeping all the fullness, take a few pumps of Dove Vitality Rejuvenated Silk Crème in hands. Rub together and rake hands through hair.

And the results...

Do I look like Rachel McAdams?

Mmmm...not quite.

But I have to say that the Dove Oxygen Moisture Leave-In Foam plus the blowdrying gave my hair so much volume without any heaviness or crunchiness. My hair was still soft and maleable. The Vitality Rejuvenated Step 1 Multitasker did help make my hair a little 'piecey' but I couldn't quite manage the twisting and pieceing action McAdam's hair team did. Still I got some more parted sections and some softer sections.

I've tried this technique with wet and dry hair and I got better and more long lasting results (though still only about 6 hours of results) when styling from wet hair. Since neither of these gave me a crisp hair feel or made my hair feel like I had 'product' these have been easy and pleasureable to incorporate into my day (especially now that I'm slowly transitioning into a morning-showerer (GASP!!!)).

How would you style your bob?
