the body shop smoky poppy gommage scrub body butter review

The LE Smoky Poppy items are now available at The Body Shop! New scent releases at TBS are always intriguing and I'm pleased to report that this scent is worth it. I don't know what Poppies smell like, but if they smell anything like this, warm, smoky, clean and intimate, please plant a whole field of them for me. Released for Valentines day, (sorries, late on the reviews), the promo photos captures the scent perfectly.

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy Body Butter* ($20CDN, 200ml) contains the Smoky Poppy scent in the classic body butter formula. Intended for normal to dry skin, it is also enriched with Community Fair Trade Shea Butter from Ghana.

Already a fan of TBS's body butters, getting the latest incarnation of the line was an obvious decision. This rendition has medium thickness; it's not quite as thick as Brazil Nut and not as thin as Pink Grapefruit. The Smoky Poppy scent comes off as fresh, like clean laundry and doesn't have an intense or heady feel to it.

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy Gommage* ($20CDN, 200ml) contains hand harvested Poppy seeds from the Ankara region of Turkey (exotic...). It is also enriched with Cane Sugar from Paraguay.

The poppy seed scrubbies are not harsh on the skin. I press as much as I could to test the harshness but strong pressure still didn't cause the exfoliates to tear or harm my skin. The seeds were more gentle than the Coconut Cream TBS scrub. It also spread a bit better but I would have liked more exfoliate density.

When rinsed off, the scrub left my skin feeling very soft. There is something in the cream portion of the scrub that stays on the skin, coating it thinly in moisturizer and scent. The Smoky Poppy scent was still evident for a few hours after leaving the shower, which brought the sensual fragrance through my day. This version of the scent was more intense and smoky than in the body butter. If you like the scent, this will be a lovely aromatherapy perk but it might be problematic if you don't.

---------------

In general, I'm rather enjoy the scent of Smoky Poppy. It's a more intimate fragrance that might not be for everyone but I appreciate the mood it evokes. There are so many more things to explore from this line and if these two options are an indication, you might get a different level of intensity depending on which one you choose so don't rule it out completely! You might just want to check it out for yourself.

Would this scent appeal to you? Have you given it a whiff at TBS?
