Glowy Cheeks and Signalling Space

A couple thoughts about highlighters.

Firstly, I never used them in school and now it seems I never use them on my face either. Why someone would take a neon yellow highlighter to their face, I don't quite know (har. har. har. *slow clap*) but let me introduce some acceptable (and removable) face options.

Secondly, I'm not convinced that emitting a radioactive glow, that points out my cheek-peaks, is really all that.

Cheekbones, I'm convinced are the face version of cleavage. Slapping on some highlighter is like putting on that deep V neck and maybe bending forward a few times. The options are not always subtle and though I've, more than once, commented on how lovely someone's highlighting efforts are, I've also thought a few times to myself, lady, you are practically signalling space with those cheeks (and where would you be if alien's actually responded? I bet you didn't have a contingency plan for that). This is why I'm letting go of my theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer.  Beautiful, maybe but glowy as hell and I'm just not quite ready to be beamed up, thanks Scotty.

MAC's Lightscapade is at least more subtle than theBalm. The sheen is more consistent and it doesn't look like I'm trying too hard to do a paint by numbers of my face contours but I'm not convinced by this option either. A bit too cool maybe, I'm sure all the Elsa wannabes can appreciate its potential iciness.

Benefit's Watt's Up is the perfect medium. The pink leaning champagne matches my tone and the swipe/blend application gives more control. I'm less likely to jam up radio transmissions with this and I'm pretty sure I can fly on airplanes without fear of a fiery demise.

On the complete opposite spectrum, I will admit that there sometimes radioactive "look at my FACE" methods may be necessary but these events are few and far between in my life. I brushed on some of Sephora's Midnight Magic Face and Body Glitter* in Rose Gold for the Canadian Beauty Innovation Awards and it seemed just right for the night. Glitter appeals to me so much more than over-the-top glow. If you're going to shine bright like a diamond, I prefer going all out and using dazzling and mesmerizing glitter rather than producing a cutting edge reflection off the high points of my face. But to each, their own.

So in conclusion, subtle highlight, but in your face glitter.

So...how bright like a diamond do you want to shine?
