In the Moment #16: 2014 Canadian Beauty Innovations Awards and Beauty Ball

2014 Canadian Beauty Innovations Awards and Beauty Ball

Last Saturday I got to go to the Canadian Beauty Innovations Award's Beauty Ball, where finalists were judged and winners were announced for various beauty categories. I went with Kaitlyn and Liz who won the tickets the CBB were giving away.

To be honest we were not given many details on the event except that it was black tie and that we could tour booths and watch the awards ceremony. There were actually some pretty interesting products showcased.

MIYU (won Best Product Launch)
Connie and Linda from MIYU represented their teas and tea facial mists/serums. Their brand pairs tea and beauty together for wellness "inside and out". Actually their teas were really tasty and its hard to pass up such cute and pretty packaging. They carry Hydrate Mi which focuses on moisturisation and enhancing the skin's natural water transport system and De-Stress Mi which focuses on calming and repairing skin barrier function. $16 for 16 sachet of tea is not a bad price at all and their facial mist retails for $34 for 80ml.

This Vancouver (holla!) based certified organic brand focuses on baby and new-mom safe products but their items have been picked up by women who haven't had babies as well. Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow loves their nipple cream for lip balm and Rachel Zoe uses the Nourishing Body Oil for her stretch marks. The brand showcased their Jojoba Oil for the awards.

Their Beaute Divine oil is on my must try list. It's a cleansing oil using Camelia oil and you guys know how I always double cleans and use a cleansing oil first. The line in general is free of (so many things) parabens, mineral oils, triclosans, silicones, synthetic dyes, phthalates, petrochemicals, sodium laureth sulfate, and sodium lauryl sulfate.

I'm REALLY excited about this one actually. It's a biodegradable cleansing cloth made out of bamboo. If I think about how many cleansing wipes I've contributed to landfills....its sort of frightening. Here's at least a more sustainable option that's got vitamins B12and soaked in citrus essential oil with a blend of honey, sunflower oil and jojoba oil . You can get these at Holts!

We got a few things to try (really interested by the cleansing cloths) and I picked up a box of MIYU's De-Stress Mi tea.

Overall the event was interesting....the venue was not the best for the awards since there was no natural flow between the exhibitor space and the main awards area. There also wasn't enough seating but we managed to sit down for a little while. In general, I enjoyed interacting with the products though!
